Sandy,
Fair enough. I was getting my synopsis from Doug Henschen's interview with Jim, who was probably trying to remember what he originally said. Like that game of telephone, the signal to noise was probably too low by the time I got it. Your version makes more sense.

Now, how do I turn this stupid "comment moderation" thing OFF?

Bruce, not sure if I agree with your interpretation of the BPM^3, although I had the benefit of seeing Sinur talk about it live at the Gartner BPM summit this week. If you consider my description, to which you've already linked, level 2 includes "some optimization...on the processes" which does imply that performance targets are being set and measured against. Only then do they move on to level 3 and spread process management across the enterprise. I see level 4 as integrating the process performance measurements that started in level 2 into a larger corporate performance management initiative, not the point at which measurement starts.
