As a follow up, the reason he said that had to do with them buying products (like FileNet and now Lombardi) and forcing it in the WebSphere umbrella, which means forcing in the WebSphere app server. We are a WebLogic and Tomcat shop, and do not want yet another app server in the environment just because IBM says so. Based on the above, I assume this is going to be the case yet again for Lombardi. Looks like Oracle BPM 11g just got a bump up in our list.

This is actually horrible news for me. I am in the middle of evaluations for a replacement of our current aging BPMS and Lombardi was firmly in our top 3. When we started this evaluation we mentioned the possibility of FileNet BPM and our CIO simply said "No IBM." This put a serious damper on my week. :(

[...] IBM Buys Lombardi (it was bound to happen…)"The battle for enterprise BPM is about engaging the business at enterprise scale, not just IT. It’s what Phil Gilbert has been preaching for years, and I don’t think IBM would have coughed up the money if they didn’t believe it, too. So the trick is melding Lombardi’s superior business-friendly tooling with IBM’s bulletproof backend and SOA. BPMN 2.0 will provide them a way to do that, so I think today’s positioning slides are just placeholders." [...]
